Scope of delivery:

Cylinder with flow control valves, turning gear, holder with fixture screw 3/8’’ female thread, air tube 50 m, steering unit with air tube connectors and mounted solenoid.

Additionally required tools: Allen key 2 mm & 4 mm Flat bladed screwdriver

Description:

The pneumatic polarisation swivel adapter PPS 9208 is used to change the polarisation of Antennas with 22 mm tube remote controlled. Compressed air with a recommended pressure of 5 to 6 bar is required. Higher air pressure should be reduced with a pressure regulator.

The control of the 2 way pneumatic cylinder is performed using a 5/2-way valve, which can be alternated by applying/removing a voltage of 12V or manually by turning the red screw using a screwdriver.

In order to achieve a smooth antenna rotation, flow control valves are used. The flow control valves and the end position damping are set to reasonable values in the factory already. By default we deliver a 12V 200mA DC operated solenoid (also available: 24V DC, 24V AC, 110V AC, or 230V AC, 2,5 Watt respectively) The air flow control valves and the end position damping are set to reasonable values by the factory.

Set up and installation:

Initially the Polarisation Swivel Adapter should be attached to the antenna mast without mounting the antenna itself. For this purpose use the long nut size 24mm. Manual tightening without wrench is usually sufficient.

Then connect compressed air to the side of the valve where only one tube can be connected. Apply the designated supply voltage for the solenoid e.g. 12 V DC and watch the reaction! Remove the voltage again! The polarisation should change. The red screw may not be pressed in (position „1“). The red screw is for manual operation and must be in position “0” (=factory setting)

Now the antenna may be placed with its 22 mm tube into the fixture of the PPS 9208.

For antennas with N-connectors it is sufficient to loosen the Allen screws of the half shells a bit. For antennas with the thicker 7/16- connector it is required to remove the half shells. Pull or push the cylinder by hand in a way that the axis between the half shells is horizontal. So the upper half shell cannot drop during antenna installation. Insert the antenna from the nickel plated side in a way that the connector comes out at the aluminum side. Check carefully if the antenna elements do not crash with the mast when changing the polarisation for the intended fixing position. Tighten the screws of the half shells. Test if the antenna can rotate freely by turning it with disconnected air tube by manual force slowly.

After having made sure that the antenna does not touch any obstacle when changing the polarisation the Allen screws can finally be tightened. It is also important to check that the antenna polarisation and the actual setting of the PPS 9208 are corresponding.

If both conditions are fulfilled, the fixture of PPS 9208 can be tightened with appropriate torque. Please note: prior to remote control operation the operator must take care that neither persons nor things are in the swivel area of the antenna. In order to obtain a smooth rotation the antennas' center of gravity should be as close as possible to the rotational axis. This is the case with nearly all Schwarzbeck Antennas.

Change of Settings:

When delivered all settings are made for standard operation. They can be adjusted if necessary.

Flow control valves:

The flow control valves must be mounted directly to the cylinder. They reduce the flow of the air out of the cylinder. In that way they reduce the speed of rotation.

Screwing in reduces the turning speed, screwing out the screw of the flow control valve increases the turning speed.
